The Call: A Golf Clubhouse with Potential but No Plan for What It Could Become

Pickaway County Parks acquired a former golf course and its clubhouse. The park district saw the potential: the clubhouse could become the district’s offices and a nature center, providing operational and educational spaces the district needed. But a golf clubhouse is designed for socializing, dining, and golf operations. Park offices need functional workspace. A nature center needs educational spaces that connect visitors to the natural environment. The leadership needed to understand what the existing building could realistically support before committing resources to the conversion.

Choosing a Partner to Assess the Building Before Converting It

Converting a building designed for one purpose into a building that serves a completely different purpose requires a plan first. The park district needed a partner who could assess the clubhouse, engage stakeholders, and present clear options with design, cost, and schedule information before any construction commitment was made. They chose Triad.

The Process That Replaced Assumptions with a Clear Roadmap

Triad’s planning team assessed the existing golf clubhouse: condition, layout, structural capacity, and potential for conversion to offices and a nature center. The assessment gave the park district a clear picture of what the building could realistically support and where modifications would be needed.

The park district’s leadership and community were engaged to define what the offices and nature center should include. Stakeholder input ensured the plan reflected real operational and educational needs, not assumptions about what a clubhouse conversion should look like.

The master plan demonstrates how the clubhouse can be converted, what the conversion would cost, and what the timeline would be. Prioritized recommendations give the district a roadmap they can implement at their own pace based on available resources.

A Plan That Gives the District Confidence to Move Forward

Pickaway County Parks now has a master plan that shows exactly how the golf clubhouse can be converted into offices and a nature center. The building was assessed for its real potential. Stakeholders shaped the recommendations. Design, cost, and schedule are clearly demonstrated. And the district can make a confident decision about the conversion because the plan replaced assumptions with data and community input. An existing building acquired for a new purpose now has a roadmap for becoming what the park district needs it to be.
